Whenever I’m Down, I Pick Up that Movie, My Friend (Part 1)

There is nothing wrong with you when you are feeling blue. Sometimes you just can’t control it, sometimes there’s no logical reason behind it. But one thing is quite certain that feeling can stick around for a while if you don’t do something about it. We all have different remedies; one can reach out for their fave wine, ice cream, smoke a cigarette or pick up an inspiring movie. Here comes the hard part; how do you know it’s worth –seeing, when you feel low you don’t want to take risks in choosing a movie you’ve never heard of and sometimes the internet search makes you feel even worse.
So by my friend’s request I’ve put together a small list of movies that cheered me up once or twice (well, may be more than that).

Let’s start with comedies, shall we?
I am one of those people who don’t like vulgar comedies with that below-the-belt humor. So if you are one of those, check these films out:

French Invasion

You can watch pretty much everything with Louis de Funès – the funniest French of all times.

Most recommended

These movies won’t crank you up but you’ll have a couple of good laughs the humor is light and up-lifting.

Coming up next are the movies with other famous French comedians Gérard Depardieu, Christian Clavier.
These films are based on comic books about the times of ancient Rome and powerful Caesar, whose powers are nothing when it comes to a teeny tiny village in Gallia (Gaul) that manages to remain independent…

Give it a shot, this is hilarious

Another successful actor duet Christian Clavier, Jean Reno is a joy to watch. Two men from the Middle Ages find themselves in our modern word of cars and indoor plumbing.

  • Les visiteurs – The Visitors (1993)
  • Les couloirs du temps: Les visiteurs 2 – The Visitors 2 – the corridors of time (1998)

English or American?

I don’t know why but Bridget Jones Diaries (2001) always puts a smile on my face.
There are a couple of more movies with Colin Firth and Hugh Grant I watch when I need to relax

.

If you want to add some musical spice to it, try the movie about unconventional rock idealists

As it comes for American comedies – how many times did I watch this one – Countless!

  • Someone Likes It Hot (1959)

With Halloween getting close you might find this dark comedy very amusing, the characters are to die for like the innocent-looking old ladies who are good with poisons.

  • Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)

From the most recent I really enjoy this one

  • The Ladykillers (2004) – though it is a remake from 1955 movie of the same name but a very good one.

Hope some of the movies listed here will make one of you rainy days warmer and brighter.
Feel free to share the movies that help you get over the blues!
